THE FISHER KING opens. Directed by Terry Gilliam, from a screenplay by Richard La Gravanese. Reworking elements from the medieval Parsifal and the Holy Grail poem which Richard Wagner co-opted for his epic three-act opera in 1860, Jeff Bridges stars as a suicidal ex-radio jock who is rescued from a mugging one drunken night by a raggedy derelict (Robin William) who immediately enjoins him to help him search for the Holy Grail. Burdened by a mutual tragedy, the jock and his rescuer embark on a redemptive, often surreal flight of fancy through a Manhattan nightscape where phantasmagorical images of a Red Knight on horseback segue seemlessly to a lyrical mass commuter waltz within the cavernous confines of Grand Central Station. With Mercedes Ruehl and Amanda Plummer.
