DAYS OF HEAVEN, written and directed by Terrence Malick, premieres in New York. The Texas Panhandle, 1916. Two itinerant lovers (Richard Gere and Brooke Adams) find work harvesting crops for a wealthy farmer (Sam Shepherd). After hearing about the farmer’s poor health, the pair plot to wrest control of his property through a sham marriage but the deception quickly engenders tragic consequences. Painterly, elegiac, onieric. Best director prize at 1979 Cannes Film Festival. With the great Linda Manz.
