DAYS OF HEAVEN, written and directed by Terrence Malick, premieres in New York. The Texas Panhandle, 1916. Two itinerant lovers (Richard Gere and Brooke Adams) find work harvesting crops for a wealthy farmer (Sam Shepherd). After hearing about the farmer’s poor health, the pair plot to wrest control of his property through a sham marriage but the deception quickly engenders tragic consequences.
