BLACK RAIN opens. Directed by Ridley Scott, from a screenplay by Craig Bolotin and Warren Lewis, opens nationally. When the vicious Yakuza prisoner they've been tasked with escorting to the authorities in Osaka, Japan, gives them the slip upon landing, two NYPD detectives (Michael Douglas and Andy Garcia), much to the displeasure of the local police, embark on a reckless, cross city pursuit that puts them in the crosshairs of a violent gang war between the Yakuza and the Japanese Mafia. A solid, impeccably crafted genre exercise co-starring Ken Takakura and Kate Capshaw.
