October 14 1994 After winning the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival in May, Quentin Tarantino’s magnum opus, Pulp Fiction, opens in the US. Set in Los Angeles’ criminal underworld, the film, structured non-chronologically, pivots on seven bravura narrative sequences - some shot from different points of view – all embroided with Tarantino’s trademark self-referential, profanity-laced dialogue and sudden bursts of ultra-violence. John Travolta, Samuel L. Jackson, Bruce Willis, Uma Thurman, Harvey Keitel and Ving Rhames chew the scenery and the bullets with equal relish.
