Night of the Living Dead, the seminal zombie/walking dead movie, written, directed, photographed and edited by George A. Romero on a meagre $114,00 budget, premieres in Pittsburgh. Shot in B & W with a cast of unknowns led by Duane Jones and Judith O'Dea, the story focuses on seven people trapped in a rural farmhouse fighting a losing battle against a multiplying army of walking dead ghouls. Lean and compact with a genuine sense of dread, the selectively gory classic is a big hit spawning 5 sequels and two remakes.
