And God Created Woman, director Roger Vadim’s directorial debut, co-written with Raoul Levy,  premieres in Paris. In her breakout role, 22 year-old Bridget Bardot pouts, poses and perambulates in varying degrees of undress as a promiscuous 18 year-old St.Tropez orphan whose carnal charms stir the loins of a lascivious, middle-aged businessman, his younger brother, and even the opportunistic scion of a local wealthy family. Though barely adequate as drama, Vadim's facility for exploiting Bardot's ample charms with scenes of casual sexual frankness ignites a controversy that catapults the film to the top of the box-office, and transforms the nubile young actress into a star overnight. Co-starring Curd Jurgens, Jean-Louis Trintignant and Christian Marquand.
