PLANES, TRAINS AND AUTOMOBILES opens. Written, produced and directed by John Hughes. When bad weather forces his New York to Chicago flight to layover indefinitely in snowbound Wichita, advertising executive Neal Page's only chance to get home in time to spend Thanksgiving with his family is to reluctantly pool his dwindling resources and share ad hoc ground transportation with Del Griffith, a cheerily loquacious shower curtain ring salesman. An inspired, witty and wacky, uproariously hilarious road movie effortlessly carried on the broad, comic shoulders of the inimitable Steve Martin and the late, great John Candy.
