WHITE NIGHTS get limited opening. Directed by Taylor Hackford, from a screenplay written by James Goldman and Eric Hughes, . Set at the height of the cold war, Mikhail Baryshnikov is appropriately cast as a former Russian ballet dancer who, after an emergency landing, finds himself back in Russia where the powers-that-be demand he rejoin the national ballet company that he abandoned as a defector years earlier. A former girlfriend (Helen Mirren) and a disillusioned Leningrad-based American (Gregory Hines) become unlikely allies as he plots his escape. A taut, well-made thriller featuring a spectacular, show stopping dance routine with Baryshnikov and Hines. Isabella Rossellini and Jerzy Skolimowski also star.
