GOLDENEYE opens. Directed by Martin Campbell, from a screenplay written by Jeffrey Caine and Bruce Feirstein (with uncredited input from Michael France & Kevin Wade. With a smug Pierce Brosnan installed as the new 007, Bond 17 finds the dumbing down of Ian Fleming's (& Connery's) suave, sophisticated icon into the homogenised anonymity of a generic, all-purpose action superhero a fait accompli. Also starring Sean Bean, Izabella Scotupco and Judi Dench.
