Conan The Barbarian, a limb-strewn sword and sorcery epic based on stories by 1930s pulp fiction writer Robert E. Howard, opens in 1400 theatres across the US. Scripted by director John Milius and Oliver Stone, the spectacularly chiseled body builder and well-known thespian Arnold Schwarzenegger stars as the titular brawn over brains, sword wielding barbarian methodically slicing and dicing his way across a mythical prehistoric landscape in search of the Snake Cult leader responsible for the murder of his parents. Co-starring James Earl Jones, Max Von Sydow and Sandahl Bergman, the film is a  huge box-office success, spawning a sequel two years later.
