Eddie Macon’s Run, a cut-price actioner spluttering on the fumes of Kirk Douglas’ fading career, opens in a handful of suburban locations. Written and directed by Jeff Kanew, from the novel by James McLendon, Douglas plays a wily inmates transfer detective hot on the trail of the titular protagonist (John Schneider), an escaped prisoner heading for the Mexico border hoping to reunite with his wife and son. A mildly diverting telemovie leveraged into theaters on the strength of Douglas’ name. John Goodman and J. T. Walsh make blink-and-you-miss-them film debuts.
