Kirk Douglas stars as a former big-shot reporter who plots his escape from the Albuqueque backwater his self-inflicted career meltdown has found him in by manipulating the ongoing rescue of a man trapped in an abandoned mine into a hysterical media circus that quickly captures national interest. A blistering portrait of hubristic folly and cynicism at its most repellent perfectly distilled in Douglas' intense, clenched-jaw performance. Outstanding work from Jan Sterling.
