Directed by Dennis Hopper, from a screenplay co-written by Hopper, Peter Fonda and Terry Southern, Easy Rider opens to solid business in selected markets. Fonda and Hopper star as a couple of footloose, hippie bikers who use the proceeds of a  drug deal to fund themselves a free-wheeling, existential journey of discovery across an America in the throes of a counter culture revolution. A scrappy, loosely-plotted road movie that serendipitously captures the zeitgeist of a nation transitioning toward a cultural realignment. Featuring a star-making performance from a young Jack Nicholson.
