Based on the novel by Jeffrey Konvitz, who shares screenplay credit with director Michael Winner, The Sentinel, a campy Rosemary’s Baby/The Omen/Excorcist redux, opens in New York. Cristina Raines stars as a young fashion model who, after moving into a too-good-to-be-true bargain-priced apartment in a swanky Brooklyn brownstone, becomes increasingly unnerved by the intense interest her presence arouses in her very sinister fellow tenants. A loopy, occasionally creepy, unsubtle exploitationer stacked high with a cast that includes familiar veterans Burgess Meredith, Eli Wallach, Jose Ferrer, Arthur Kennedy, Martin Balsam, Sylvia Miles, Ava Gardner and Beverley D'Angelo, alongside young up-and-comers Christopher Walken, Jeff Goldblum, and Tom Berenger.
