THE INCREDIBLE SHRINKING WOMAN, Joel Schumacher's directing debut, written by Jane Wagner, opens. Jack Arnold's 1957 B-movie - itself an adaptation of Richard Mathieson's 1957 novel The Shrinking Man - gets gender flipped & repurposed as a playful, pastel-coloured consumerism jape starring Lilly Tomlin (in one of 3 roles) as a frazzled suburban housewife who becomes a national celebrity after exposure to new perfume causes her to shrink. Co-starring Charles Grodin and Ned Beatty.
