Male Of The Species, a little seen, made for television drama featuring three major film stars of the day - Sean Connery, Michael Caine and Paul Schofield - airs on America's NBC network. Written by Alun Owen for the British ITV Saturday Night Theatre series, and directed by Charles Jarrott and Anthony Page, the story focuses on a young woman's (Anna Calder-Marshall) at times fractious relationship with the three men in her life- her blue collar, womanising father, her slyly lascivious boyfriend and an older, elegantly flirtatious barrister. A smartly written, impeccably performed character study that wins the Outstanding Dramatic Series Emmy in June '69.
