Written and directed by Alex Garland, Ex Machina opens in the U.S. Domhnall Gleeson stars as an IT programmer whose weekend sojourn at the isolated, high-tech mountain retreat of his company's reclusive CEO (Oscar Isaac) takes a sinister detour when his enigmatic host subtly inveigles him into a "relationship" with his newly-built, seemingly sentient, female android (Alicia Vikander). A fascinating, contemplative, stunningly designed sci-fi allegory, boasting flawless state-of-the-art CGI elements, with a terrific performance from Isaac as the enigmatic latter-day Frankenstein.
