PLAY DIRTY, written by Melvyn Bragg, from a story by George Marton, opens in London. Director Andre De Toth's undeappreciated last film postulates an existential riff on The Dirty Dozen with Michael Caine as a BP employee roped in to head a seven man suicide mission tasked with blowing up a German fuel dump deep in the North African desert. Nigel Davenport, Nigel Green and Harry Andrews round out the dubiously motivated military ensemble. Sinewy, brutal & cynical to a fault.
