PLAY DIRTY, written by Melvyn Bragg, from a story by George Marton, opens in London. Director Andre De Toth's undeappreciated last film postulates an existential riff on The Dirty Dozen with Michael Caine as a BP employee leading a seven man suicide mission to take out a German fuel dump in the North African desert. Nigel Davenport, Nigel Green and Harry Andrews round out the dubiously motivated military ensemble. Sinewy, brutal & cynical to a fault.
