WARNING SHOT, made for television movie opens theatrically in a handful of suburban markets hoping to capitalise on star David Janssen’s popularity courtesy of his ongoing hit TV series The Fugitive. Written by Mann Rubin from the novel 711- Officer Needs Help by Whit Masterson, and directed by Buzz Kulik, Janssen is a suspended LAPD detective who embarks on an unofficial investigation to clear his name following his self-defence shooting of a prominent physician. A solid, no-frills, police procedural-murder mystery saved from  inconsequentiality by Janssen’s stock-in-trade stoicism and cameos from a formidable supporting cast that includes Ed Begley, Keenan Wynn, Lillian Gish, George Sanders, Steve Allen and Joan Collins.
