Written by Cuban novelist G. Cabrera Infante using the pseudonym Guillermo Cain, and directed by Richard C. Sarafian,Vanishing Point opens in a handful of suburban locations. Barry Newman is the enigmatic Kowalski, a cross country car delivery driver whose high-speed, deadline-mandated run from Denver to San Francisco in a muscular, supercharged Dodge Challenger assumes elements both existential and mystical when his four state police pursuit is made public by the cryptic exhortations of a blind, jive-talking radio DJ. Dismissed by the studio and critics upon its release, a groundswell of enthusiastic critical reassessment in the intervening years has elevated the film to the cult classic status it richly deserves. The Blu-ray DVD features the original US version as well as a slightly longer UK version.
