Written by Henry Bean and directed by Mike Figgis, Internal Affairs premieres in Los Angeles. Richard Gere plays against type as a cocky, corrupt LA cop who embarks on a campaign of harassment, intimidation and outright violence against the two Internal Affairs officers (played by Andy Garcia and Laurie Metcalf) who have launched an investigation into his nefarious extracurricular activities. A sleek, solidly calibrated reworking of the good cop/bad cop conceit boosted by Gere’s impressive return to form after a two or three picture career slump.
