WELCOME TO MOOSEPORT opens. Directed by Donald Petrie, from a screenplay by Tom Schulman. Breezy, homespun, Capra-esque comedy with Gene Hackman (in his last screen appearance before retiring) as a former US President whose campaign to become his home town's new mayor hits turbulence when popular local plumber (Ray Romano) joins the race. Co-starring Marcia Gay Hardin, Maura Tierney, Christine Baranski and Rip Torn.
