Written by Arthur Miller, and directed by John Huston, THE MISFITS opens nationally. Despairingly melancholic rumination on disillusion & disempowerment with Marilyn Monroe as fragile divorcee who falls in with Clark Gable's ageing cowboy & Montgomery Clift's laconic rodeo rider roping Mustangs in the Nevada desert. Monroe and Gable's final film. Clift dies a few years later. Co-star Eli Wallach lives well into his 90s.
