The End Of The Affair, a remake of the Edward Dmytryk-directed 1955 original, goes into limited release. Written and directed by Neil Jordan, from Graham Greene's 1951 semi-autobiographical novel, the film's flashback narrative, shifting elliptically between 1939 and 1946, tracks an ill-fated, illicit love affair between a cynical, embittered London novelist and his best friend's disenchanted wife. A somber, introspective portrait of obsession, infidelity, jealousy, and religious guilt enscribed on a blue-gray palette of stiff-upper-lip gloom, limned to perfection by stars Ralph Fiennes, Julianne Moore and Stephen Rea.
