MONSTER, written and directed by Patty Jenkins, opens in New York. A beefed-up, deglamorized Charlize Theron stars as Aileen Wuornos, a Florida prostitute who, in 1989-1990, murdered nine of her clients. Christina Ricci co-stars as Wuornos' girlfriend. Theron wins Best Actress Oscar as well as the Berlin Film Festival's Silver Bear.
