December 17 1971

Written by Richard Maibaum and Tom Mankiewicz, from the novel by Ian Fleming, and directed by Guy Hamilton, DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER premieres. In a marked departure from the style & sophistication of his 5 previous outings, Connery's Bond swan song, set primarily in Las Vegas, glibly overlays its set pieces with a high camp aesthetic that, scene for scene, plays as a prescient nod to the tone and texture Roger Moore's upcoming 007 tenure. Disappointing.
