THE KEEP, written and directed by Michael Mann, from the novel by F.Paul Wilson, opens in limited markets. In 1941 German soldiers unwittingly release an evil Golam-like entity from the confines of an ancient Romanian fortress. Despite ongoing studio interference (which saw Mann's original 210 minute cut reduced to barely 90), the film still manages to facilitate a spooky, hair-raising, richly atmospheric dive into Lovecraftian supernatural horror. With Scott Glenn, Alberta Watson, Ian McKellan and Gabriel Byrne.
