Compromising Positions, directed by Frank Perry, from a screenplay by Susan Isaacs, adapted from her own 1978 novel, opens nationally. Susan Sarandon stars as a former reporter, now bored Long Island housewif,e who becomes the bane of police detective Raul Julia's life when she insinuates herself into his investigation into the murder of the town's lecherous dentist. A slight but smart comedy crime caper with Sarandon's feisty amateur sleuth holding her own against a raunchy female cast that includes a scene-stealing Judith Ivey.
