Directed by television journeyman Lee H. Katzin (stepping in after original director Bernard Girard walks four weeks into the shoot), Whatever Happened To Aunt Alice premieres nationally. Adapted for the screen by Theodore Apstein, from Ursula Curtiss' 1962 novel, The Forbidden Garden, the estimable Geraldine Page goes full Grand Guignol as a haughty, not-so-grieving widow who, despite being left penniless by her recently deceased husband, supplements her ongoing high-end lifestyle by fleecing her live-in housekeepers of their life savings and then murdering them. Her macabre modus operandi only starts to unravel when her latest housekeeper, played by the feisty Ruth Gordon, takes it upon herself to do some amateur sleuthing.
