MEAN GIRLS opens. Dir. Mark Waters. High school clique chick flick, buoyed by Tina Fey's sly, smartly observed adapted screenplay, deftly circumvents much of the genre's formulaic fodder with an appealing Lindsay Lohan as the Clueless Heathers' newest recruit.
