KISS OF DEATH opens. Directed by Barbet Schroeder. Screenplay by Richard Price. Based on the film Kiss Of Death written by Ben Hecht and Charles Lederer, from a story by Eleazar Lipsky. Respectable, under-rated remake of Henry Hathaway's 1947 noir classic (with debuting Richard Widmark) centering on an ex-con who turns police informer to take down psycho gangster. Nominal star David Caruso gets soundly steamrolled by Nicolas Cage's tour-de-force villiany.
